COLLECTIVE REDUNDANCY CONSULTATION: UNNECESSARY RED TAPE OR ESSENTIAL SAFEGUARD?

Public services have seen, and will continue to see cuts to services and large scale redundancies. A significant worsening of the law governing collective redundancy consultation came into force on April 6 2013, most notably halving the consultation period for large redundancies (more than 100 jobs) from 90 days to 45 day whilst the expiry of fixed-term contracts is now expressly excluded from collective redundancy consultation obligations.
