TAKING BACK CONTROL OF EMPLOYMENT LAW AFTER THE UK-EU TRADE AGREEMENT

• 23.6.16 Brexit Referendum – no legal effect.
• 26.6.18 – EUWA 2018 given Royal assent (originally the Great Repeal Bill).
• 31.1.20 – Withdrawal Agreement (WA) came into force (signed 24.1.20) = exit day. Domestic approval via EU (Withdrawal Agreement) Act
2020, amending EUWA.
• Key provisions of EUWA 2018 not in force, though ss 1A-1B on implementation period were.
• 21.12.20 – EUWA etc Commencement, Transitional and Savings Provisions Regulations 2020, SI 2020/1622, finally bring key provisions of
EUWA 2018, as amended by EU(WA)A 2020, into force on 31.12.20.
• 31.12.20, 11 pm (UK time) – that’s it = IP completion day (IPCD).
